Santo Pictures- part 1

Sorry these are out of order, but I didn't get them transfered to the Blog before Rex got writing again! Just to remind you what you'll be seeing; Santo is a national park type place with a beautiful lodge, gym, outdoor eating shelters, camping area, campfire and gathering area with arena seating that the Japanese can rent for their families or any other group or association.

My first thought was it would make a great Scrapbook retreat!!! You can eat in the cafeteria or bring your own food. Some of the Tatami rooms were more private (like ours) and some were classroom size where many kids could sleep. The rooms are kept empty until night when you get your futon and sheets from the cupboards in the rooms. Some rooms had tv's, microwaves and sinks. You can cook in the picnic shelters too like we did. Did I mention that it is only 500 yen a night per person (@$4.75)? Truly the only Japanese bargain around! How do you like the bathroom slippers? They say "toilet" right on them! You definately want to be wearing them in the "squatty potty" bathrooms! While we were there several groups of about 50 came and went as well as family groups. Our group was @ 40. The Lodge is so big with many meeting rooms that it never seemed crowded. We were there 3 days and 2 nights. I wish you could see how amazing the landscape was. It doesn't show up in the pictures well. It is very hilly and steep! The moutains were right behind us - straight up! To get to Santo it took about 2 hrs and we drove through the valleys of suburbs with gardens everywhere and rice paddys.

Quinn! The straw mats are called Tatami. That's what the floor covering is. Rooms are measured by how many Tatami mats there are in the room. Most bedrooms are 4.5 tatami from what I've seen. Interesting huh? You just lay your futon out on the tatami at night and that's your bed. I think it takes getting used to. I liked the shoes too! Chrissy
