This morning an outer band of Typhoon 5, blew through and rained on us. The Typho on is miles away. I think it passed over the island of Kyushu and then over Hiroshima. For about an hour or more today, it just poured. Chrissy and I stayed home and unpacked finally.
Today I went into work at one. Our only task in the office was to clear up our Social Security issues for Japan. Afterward, Sakurai assigned us the task of exploring Nishinomiya. And for the first time she gave us maps in English and I realized we weren’t doing too bad with the Japanese ones we had before. I did find Hanshin Stadium where the Tigers play. We will make a game hopefully soon.
We will probably be assigned schools after we return
from our Santo Seminar, a summer camp where students
can only speak English. It goes from this Sunday to
Tuesday. There are some 20 junior high schools spread
throughout the city. Nakaya-cho is pretty central.
The coastal plain stretches out toward the south of
us. We are probably 2-3 miles from the bay. Chrissy
and I rode our bikes through the city and down there yesterday.
Today, I rode my bike up into the hills, as Chrissy
continued to work on her computer. Just 500 m from us
to the north is a small Home Depot type store. I
wandered around that store this afternoon. I even
bought a stay dry shirt for myself to wear as I ride
my bike. 3 L-I hope it fits. It could be form
fitting. (it is!) The road up the hill and through the
neighborhoods are narrow. Japanese drivers also drive
on the left. It will take a little getting used to.
