Santo - part 2

One of the events at Santo camp was to learn "outdoor cooking". We split up into groups of 6 and made our own fire and batches of Japanese curry and rice. I can't find any difference between Japanese and Indian curry, and they eat it here all the time! I love it.
I forgot to say that Japanese kids are raised very traditional boy/girl. Boys sit in front, go 1st in line...So when we were at outdoor cooking the boys went straight to the fire and gave the basket with food and utensils to the girls. Claudia (the ALT from Spokane) told me she heard one girl say "to hell with this" and went over and grabbed the stuff to make the fire! I loved it! So when we were cleaning up to go home we had to bring all our sheets to one location and they want them folded to go to laundry for some reason. Anyway, the kids aparently didn't fold quite good enough so I came around the corner and got this picture of all the male teachers folding the sheets. They laughed when I called it "women's work" - so at least they have a sense of humor!!!

so boys sit in front and are outspoken about their learnings but girls sit in back and are more shy about asking questions in class?

Hi!
It's midnight here (friday night) and I'm about ready to go to bed and you're just getting up I bet! Friday was a good day - enjoy it! I'm sure Rex will write about it tomarrow morning - we went to Kobe by train. I have more pictures too.
Yeah the boys are kinda given preference. But I think the girls are catching on. They actually were telling the boys what to do subtly all day long! Watch out girls are smart!
It's so fun to get your comments! I think it you would really enjoy it over here. It's amazing to learn about another culture. We assume we know so much, but when you're put to the test trying to live, eat and breathe it - it's very different!
Hope you're enjoying the last of summer! Keep blogging to us! love, Chrissy
