Return of the Johnnys (Kanjani8)

The kids in the second grade are presenting little speeches. When I say little I mean, three to five sentences long. I had one particular girl who gave a particularly impassioned speech.

Their speeches are on what they will be when they grow up. Her passion is to become the manager for the Johnnys. This is the same girl who showed me a picture of the Japanese boy band, The Johnnys, and asked me which one was the cutest. Unfortunately I knew. I couldn’t understand much of her speech because significant portions of it were dedicated to listing all of the boys’ names. She was genuine and I told her and the class that I appreciated her honesty. She is also the only kid in the class, whom I asked for a copy of her speech. She said yes. It is something I will treasure.

She reminds me of my kids, but I must be clear. Whittney was the one who converted into a Boy Bander. And in the quest of following a little girls dream, I have attended a boy band concert and I have waited outside of the venues of a few, too. Jessie never did waiver in her beliefs about music. Jessie remained faithful to her upbringing. I can best describe Jess’ musical taste with one word. Vinyl. Every time she visits a record shop, she continues my search for my long lost “Long Run” album. She knows well what to look for. Kids, I love you.
