Business in Japan

We lost our internet yesterday. We don’t know when we will get it back. In the switch between the previous ALT and us the bill was delayed. By the time we went to pay, it was too late. They don’t accept late payments in Japan.

In the best case scenario, it will take one week to restore service. I shouldn’t say restore, but begin service anew. That is if we can drop our current phone number and begin with a brand new phone. But if the new phone number we receive has ever had internet service connected to it, then we will not be able to use it. Or if the phone number still has a past due charge for internet associated with it, we would have to pay off that bill.

Restoration of service will take at least two weeks, but it will be cut off on October 31 and we will not be able to reconnect with a new account until November 27.

We have offered to pay off this bill. The internet service provider has recommended against it.

It is very strange. The internet has provided the majority of our information, contact with the outside world, and entertainment. Chrissy is leaving tomorrow and I will be marooned without any prospect of communication.

There is an internet café around the corner from our house, we will explore it tonight.

“Scary!” as my friend Matt Gomez used to say.
