We left Macau today by high speed jet ferry - First Ferry. The fare was a little less than 20$ each, however we only had to buy one ticket because as Chrissy stood in line a man asked if she was going to Kowloon and when she said "yes" he handed her a ferry ticket for the 12:30 time slot we were in line for.
She asked "how much" thinking he wanted to scalp the ticket and he said "no", "a present" and walked away quickly. The Macanese people have been very nice to us. There is a ferry leaving Macau for HK every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day! Plus if you're in a really hurry you can take a helicopter.
Many people didn't have luggage so we assumed they had probably just been over for a day trip to the casinos. The ferry was quite comfortable with airline type seats and was pretty smooth except for when we passed other boats. We had expected Seattle-like ferries, so we were pretty happy to see how comfy these were. Our trip took less than an hour. We landed in Kowloon, but the ferry will also take you to HK or other nearby ports. Not knowing our way around or how far the "New Territories" were, we decided to take a taxi to the hotel & risk a big taxi fare rather than attempting the trains or subways with all our luggage and not knowing where we were going. It was a good choice actually, because, as we have now found out, most locals don't even know much about the area of the New Territories, and even though the cab ride was about 25 min it only cost us @10 USD.
Time to settle in and begin our exploration.
