Best Bread in the World

Our last night in Macau we treated ourselves to a nice dinner at the MGM Russian Room. As the MGM casino has just been open 2 weeks it wasn’t very busy and clearly the staff were eager practice their newly acquired skills of table etiquette and service. Too bad for them it was wasted on us. Or maybe it was a good thing, because if they screwed up it didn’t matter because we don’t know proper etiquette anyway. Better us than some High Roller to practice on, right? Needless to say, we are very unaccustomed to this level of service. At all times we had one girl standing nearby, ready to clear away any dishes or answer any need. It really was more than we could take, so pretty quickly we engaged her in conversation while we ate and tried not to get in her way of serving us as we could tell the Maitre’d was watching. Rex broke the ice by saying "shei shei" ("thank you" in Chinese)and she continued by teaching us several phrases in Chinese throughout the night. A couple of times I had to tell Rex to quite bothering her so she could do her job. Later Rex called the Maitre’d over to compliment him on his excellent staff, just in case we got her in trouble. All the staff were very nice and accommodating, even the chef created a beautiful plate with all our veggie side dishes (it was a steak, lobster, caviar kind of place, with a dead leg of something - hoof to hip- lying on the counter behind me, so we couldn't order a main dish). But our girl was especially sweet and I practically had to stop Rex from adopting her on the spot and taking her to America with us. I'd say "there's a sucker born every minute" because it's hard to not be cynical and we expect people to always be trying to get something from us. But I believe this girl truly dreams of getting to America, and she didn't seem to want anything more from us but to simply be near people who actually get to live there and maybe it gave her some hope.
By the way, as the title eludes - this place had the best bread we've had in 6 months! Rex ordered seconds - of course!!!
