When will this heat end?
The other night, while we were in Himeji it had cooled down to comfortable, perhaps into the mid 70s. That night at home, we did not run the AC in our apartment for the first time. We simply opened the windows and let the fan run all night. Thursday was very muggy and overcast. Today, Friday, there are scattered clouds. The sun broke through and cast a thin orange stripe on our bedroom wall as my alarm went off this morning. I was hoping that the heat might have broken again, but it hadn’t. The first 50 meters of my bike ride were nice, but then I could feel the sweat start to pour. Sitting at an intersection, I could feel the heat rise off of the street, but it wasn’t like heat back home. The heat here is thick. I think it was only in the mid 80s but it felt much warmer. At school, I could see the sweat all through my shirt. The rim of my pants pocket was also wet from where I reached in to grab my keys. Now, as I sit in the morning faculty meeting, the principal’s shirt is also soaked. At least I am not alone. The Japanese say that October and November are pleasant months for the weather. Here it is the last school day of September, I can’t wait for a cool breeze.
